As I sit down to write my first blog post, I am overcome with emotions. The journey of being an adoptive mother to three amazing siblings from foster care has been nothing short of an incredible adventure. The highs have been unimaginably high, and the lows have tested us in ways we never knew possible. But through it all, we know we were led by the Lord to this path from day one.
I remember the day we first met the children, a trio of siblings who had already been through so much in their young lives. They were spunky, loved each other fiercely and we saw a spark of hope there in their eyes.
And so began our journey. The months of classes and paperwork were done, but there was more paperwork, meetings, home visits, doctor appointments and then they finally moved into our home. There were surprise visits from caseworkers, visits with counselors, helping them navigate a new school and it all began over Christmas break. When it was adoption day, and all was official, we were filled with an overwhelming sense of joy and relief.
The road ahead wasn’t always smooth. The children had to adjust to a new home, new rules, new routines. They struggled with trust, with feeling safe and secure. We struggled with how to parent them, how to help them heal from past trauma, how to navigate the complex world of foster care and adoption.
There were moments when we felt like giving up, when we wondered if we were really cut out for this. But we kept reminding ourselves that we were led by the Lord to this path, and that He would guide us through the highs and lows.
And guide us He did. Over the past nine years, we’ve watched these children grow and flourish in ways we never could have imagined. They’re doing well in school, forming healthy friendships, and learning what it means to be part of a family. They’ve taught us so much about resilience, forgiveness, and unconditional love.
Our journey is far from over, but we’re grateful for every moment of it. Through this blog, I hope to share some of the lessons we’ve learned, the joys we’ve experienced, and the challenges we’ve faced. Above all, I hope to encourage others who may be considering foster care or adoption. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
